BE IT RESOLVED that the South Windsor Town Council hereby declares a 1993 Emergency One (E-One) Pumper (white over red), 92 Series Detroit Diesel Engine with a 1500 gpm Hale pump, 940 water tank, 60 gallon foam tank, VIN #4ENBAA86P1002341, approximate mileage 19,534 to be "Surplus Equipment", and authorizes Town Manager, Michael Maniscalco to sell, donate, or otherwise dispose of this vehicle.

Item 15C - Resolution Requesting the Human Relations Commission to Plan an Annual Program to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., changed our Nation forever through his leadership, service, and clarity of vision; and
WHEREAS, Dr. King devoted his life to strengthening the content of the American character and called on our Nation to live up to its founding principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all its citizens; and
WHEREAS, through his determination, spirit, and resolve, Dr. King helped lift souls and lead one of the greatest movements for equality and freedom in history; and
WHEREAS, the Town of South Windsor wishes to honor the lasting legacy of this great American, remembering the ideals which he stood for, and recommit ourselves to ensuring the ideals which he stood for, and recommit ourselves to ensuring that our country's promise extends to all Americans across this great country; and
WHEREAS, as we observe Dr. King's birthday, the Town of South Windsor encourages all South Windsor residents to celebrate his memory by performing acts of kindness through service to others
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the South Windsor Town Council hereby requests the Human Relations Commission to plan an annual formal Town-wide program on the day designated as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., beginning in January of 2020.

Item 15D - Resolution Establishing a Committee for the 175th Anniversary

WHEREAS, on the first Wednesday in September of 2020, the Town of South Windsor will celebrate its 175th year since the Governor of the State of Connecticut signed legislation officially designated the land that is now the Town of South Windsor; and
WHEREAS, in the 175 years of existence, the Town of South Windsor has had many famous and notable residents; and the Town of South Windsor has made many contributions to surrounding communities, the State of Connecticut, and the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, in the 175 years, the Town of South Windsor has contributed to providing the best quality of life for the residents it proudly serves
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of South Windsor plans to celebrate its 175th Anniversary through the development and efforts of a 175th Anniversary Committee. It is the express purpose of the Committee to develop, plan, host new programs, and endorse community events that will recognize, commemorate, and celebrate the founding of South Windsor. The goal is to develop a series of unique events that will signify this celebrations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Committee shall plan, organize and implement events and celebrations; seek community support; endorse, and collaborate with other community events; and make requests for support to the Town Council; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor shall appoint the Chair (the Chair shall have a vote in all matters before the Committee). The Mayor shall also appoint two "Honorary Chair" for this project (two former Mayors). The Committee members shall be recommended by the Mayor and will be ratified and appointed by the Town Council and shall consist of six (6) members of the public (not in an elected position and not a member of Town Staff), and shall have three (3) members of each political party; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that at its first meeting, the Committee shall elect the Vice-Chair. The Chair and Vice-Chair shall set the agenda, and the Chair shall have the leadership role in coordinating the meetings. The Town Manager, or his designee, shall be an at-large member with the full right to participate in meetings but shall hold no vote. The Mayor, or his designee, shall be an at-large member with the full right to participate in the meetings but shall hold no vote.
